Silversmith+Jeweler

A Blog for the Silversmiths + Jewelers.

It has been a busy couple weeks at Harold Studio! We have updated the process for open studio.  We would be so appreciative if everyone coming in for open studio, including part time and full time renters, would please sign in to the blue sparkly book that will be on top of the water cooler!  If you are a part time or full time renter, just write pt or ft under the hours.  We want to track when the studio is being used and how busy it is during certain times.  Thanks in advance for your help! We would like to offer our condolence to Ginger in Friday's Jewelry 1 class for the loss of her father.  We are sending our love to you and your family in this difficult time. Are you a fan of our Facebook page?  If not, please check it out.  We post often (but not too often) pictures of jewelry made in the studio and jewelry articles and tips.  We would love it too if you would share great tips you have come across along the way. Now here is the past two weeks in pictures! E...

One of the unexpected, but very much appreciated perks of Harold Studio, is all of the relationships I have gained. I have found and made so many friends, formed so many positive relationships through the studio, I am extremely blessed. I have come to care about so many special people that have come into my life over the years. Some are snowbirds(people who enjoy the beautiful weather Arizona offers in the winter months, then leave for the hot summer months). They spend a fair amount of time at the studio and we get to know each other, then they are gone for months and I really feel like a friend is gone. But they keep in touch through email, interested in my life and keeping me up to date with theirs. I have met many husbands who tell me they are grateful to me because their wives are so happy to have the studio to go to and get so much out of it. I have been over to their homes for dinner, been through the ups and downs of relationships, of life with them. Given and received comfort....
Sara is a vibrant lady from Cuba who spent over 30 years of her life living in Hong Kong. She was very close to the Sham Shui Po district - where there are some amazing finds for jewelry! Sara brought this finished lariat in today. She learned how to do the texture on the cone last week, then figured out how to make the cone on her own and came up with a beautiful design for it! Like her on Facebook to see more of her jewelry. ...
Gaera is the newest addition to the Harold Studio home, but she's been around since nearly the beginning after finding out about the studio while going to metal smithing school in Turkey. The product of two artists as parents, Gaera definitely has designing in the blood. She's been all around the globe and her travels definitely seem to be reflected in her jewelry design. You can see some of her work here and I'm sure these pieces will be on her site soon! What do you think?...
These are a pair of earrings that were a Christmas present from Chris of Cross Currents Studio which I absolutely adore. They're long and look great on and are a pretty example of what you can do with fold forming. And what a coincidence, because tomorrow is our next Wine and Design and we are going over fold forming! So join us at Jobot at 6pm for some amazing food, drink, and jewelry conversation!...
Today at the gem show, we saw stones of all shapes and sizes (one as tall as me!) from every corner of the world. It was more than a little overwhelming. I was able to get some tools for the studio and everyone ended up buying some stones. It was definitely a fun time and we didn't even see a tenth of the show!...
